Cape to Cape MTB hits Margaret River region 22 – 25 October

Set to an iconic backdrop of world-famous surf beaches and vineyards, private farmlands, rocky outcrops and national forests, Cape to Cape MTB is a unique and challenging four-day ride (shorter options also available) traversing the coastal ridge from Cape Leeuwin in the south to Cape Naturalist in the north.

Taking in a network of dedicated tracks between the overnight stops at Hamelin Bay, Margaret River and Yallingup, Cape to Cape MTB is designed for mountain bike fanatics and leisure junkies looking for a unique physical challenge in the South West of Western Australia.

Discounts and ride options

Cape to Cape MTB if offering an early bird special and various ride options for the inaugural event, 22 to 25 October 2008. Offering cheaper prices and flexibility for entrants, an early bird special gives riders a 10% discount on entries received before Monday, 22 September, while new ride options cater to those who may not be able to take the full week off work or perhaps aren’t up to riding the full distance. Riders can choose from the half ride (24 & 25 October) and one-day ride (25 October) options starting at $148.17.

Check out www.capetocapemtb.com for full details.

That’s right it’s on, thanks to PMBC & PDMBC we have joined forces to save this event from being cancelled. We have gotten permission from DEC to use the track that was originally designed by Glen Jacobs (a world cup course designer). We will use the new section at the top of the track that flows really well into the gravity berm, using the B section from last year (Yay! we nolonger have to ride down the boring fire-raod). This is a really fun and flowy track to ride with a few technical bits.

Official practice and registration Sat 13th Sept 10:00am-4:00pm
Compulsory practice and registration Sunday 14th Sept 8.00am-10.00am
Registration closes 9:30am
Racing starts 10:30am finishes 3pm
Presentations 3:30pm

Online Rego: is now available for the race. New in 2008 is the option to register online and then pay at the race (this way if you don’t want to use/have a credit card, you can still register online). ALSO, because there are no prizes from sponsors etc…we rely need people to pay at the race so we will be able to give out cash for prizes. Please register online and select pay on day option—should be the only one available.

Online rego at:  Downhill State #5 on 14/09/2008
Cost:
Under 13s = No fees
Juniors (15s – 17s) = $50
Under 19s = $65
Seniors (All categories) = $75
Includes *transport to top of hill (3 buses) on both days.

We realise this is a lot of money, but due to the remoteness of the track our costs to get everything there are increasing. Also, the hire costs of all the equipment is increasing—inflation hurts us all. Here is a breakdown of the basic costs to run a state event: Buses = $2750, 1st Aid = $1500, Toilets = $550, PA = $350…etc, and we want to give out cash prizes. So as you can there are a lot of costs invovled–Thank you.

Providing own transport will not be allowed, nor will practicing outside the official practice times.
Accomodation: STRICTLY NO CAMPING AT THE RACE COURSE SITE.

Getting there:
From Perth head down South Western Highway until you are almost in Bunbury, you need to turn left onto Waterloo Rd (there’s a Gull Servo on the right). Follow Waterloo all the way to the end T-junction with Ferguson Road—turn left away from Dardanup. The bottom of the race track which is located driving on Ferguson Road away from Dardanup. After passing the Waterloo Rd drive about 6-7 kms, and then turn left yp a short hill (PMBC signs will be placed here). You follow that road for about 2kms and there is a clearing on the right side below a logged and reforested area where a few gravel fire roads intersect only 15 metres from the bitumen, and there is a grassy flat section. You should be able to see the race track from the main road because the colourful bunting will already be up along the track. **See attached maps for details**

Hope to see you all there.

Thanks to all those who particapated and to those who gave up thier time to help out.

Huge crowds from what i saw on the replays. The worst finish on a track imaginable, but this is how it panned out..

A shocker for sam, qualifying in 8th finish in 11th, Greg taking top point’s, 1st in quali’s and the final. Going into Schaldaming i think Sam’s going to need some luck to go his way. He’ll need to win quali’s and the final, and i think the word is greg would have to go 5th and 5th, and then gee is only handful of points behind Sam. Not a good day for Mitch eithor.
