Is That Joel?
Rennie
The weather was better today, sunshine all day and the showers are holding off so far! Not looking good for Friday tho, few showers & sat showers. Hopefully that might help the aussies out tho.
Had the opening ceremony last which was like a mini olympics, then had tea with the aussie team. Ben & Joel told me stories from the US and it was good to catch up with them.
Ben’s starting to get the track dialed in after todays practice sessions and he’s looking good as do Joel & Mitch. I’m surprised how fast they look compared to others. The course is technical but fast with only one short rock garden and lots of riders are casing jumps our boys are smokin, seems like the WA boys have had some good schoolin on WA tracks!
Seeding runs for all DH classes are tomorrow and Benny Bell is first cab off the rank! It’s a hard qualifying process, one run determines the start order then they get one run on Sat to decide who reins the world! No chances for mistakes.
Also went to 4X qualifying & practice today which was insane. The course is unbelieveable, I got to interview Lopes, Carter, Gracia, Rando, Jill Kinter & Luke strom which was awesome. They all said they loved the course but that its way bigger then anyting theyve ridden before.
Sprague Carter says hi!
Sorry I don’t have pics as I’m shooting video, can’t wait to get back & cut it tho, the 4X course is truly mind blowing.
Sad news tho in case u havent already heard, aussie renee junga suffered spinal injuries at the 4X in practice & the word from Auckland hospital is that she won’t walk again. It was pretty intense as I was standing right there. It totally changed the mood in the aussie camp…………….. Dunno what else to say cept that I feel sick………..
Wade Bootes broke his nose and also looks to be out. Rando, Strom, Ameil & Lolyd all qualified so we are lookin good.
What else? Ummm, its bloody cold here, snowed during DH practice, saw a few WA crew, derek price & a few others, the DH course looks good, aussies should go alright I reckon.
Okay I’m out, will post up after seeding runs.
Cheers!

WTF! Its Like The Sand Pit In Return Of The Jedi!
Men
1 - Michal Prokop
2 - Brian Lopes
3 - Roger Rinderknecht
4 - Guido Tschugg
5 - Cedric Gracia
Women
1 - Jill Kintner
2 - Anneke Beerten
3 - Joey Gough
4 - Jana Horakova
5 - Tara Llanes
The track sounds absolutely mentally dangerous with a fair few riders electing to spectate and preserve themselves for the Down Hill. The course is super steep super tight and wet. Wade Bootes has broken his nose and hasnt been seen since and Aussie Bmx Champ Renee Junger has done some serious shit to her back and by the sound of it, it could be bad real bad.

The Venue
Hi everyone from cold & wet Rotorua! I got here yesterday totally wasted from no sleep after a few days due to travel and crashed out last night.
I’m posting from the flash media centre as I’m here doing a show for Fuel Tv so I thought I’d keep all the west aussies updated. Got access all areas which is mad. I’l be able to post up from here as soon as we know which west aussie is the new world champ!
Just finished the first day of DH practice and I’m just about to head over to 4X practice. Both courses are awesome, this place defies description it’s crazy. The terrain is like nothing I’ve ever seen, looks like videos I’ve seen of whistler. The food is like nothing I’ve ever seen and the place is unbelieveable, I’m staying right next to the thermal pools, 180 degrees coming out of the ground and it’s right in town! Hot showers straight out of the ground!
First practice was pretty good, most ppl took it real easy just looking, the course is mainly in the trees, it’s kinda like Dwelli but faster, BIG gaps crazy rock gardens and quite a few woods bridges. It’s VERY well designed as you’d expect. Some showers this morning, the wood stuff was slippery as, Ben’s got 5 stitches in his chin already! Good to see he hasn’t changed one bit!
I saw minnar & gracia which was cool, talked to gracia for abit & all the aussies. Was real good to see Ben, Joel & Mitch and all the other aussies.
I’m off to check out 4X practice on the most insane 4X track i’ve seen, it’s STEEEEEEEEP and fast but pretty short, you can see it all from one spot.
Talk to ya’s tomorrow!

This weekend we are holding a Club Round at the Wellington Mills track which SWMBC will be using for the final State round in 3 weeks time. This will be an excellent opportunity to dial in the course before the big race because there will be a few of the fast boys from overseas back in town to try and take it out with their new found speed.
For U13’s and U15’s $20
U17’s and U19’s $25
Sport,Expert,Elite etc $35
All above prices include shuttles.
If you are not already a Peel member bring $20 to join and if you are not a current MTBA licence holder you will need to pay a day licence of $15.
Practise is from 9 to 11am racing at 11.30am and we should have everything wrapped up by about 2pm.
To get to Wellington Mills head along the South West Hwy towards Bunbury, on your right there is the Waterloo Gull service station turn left into the Road opposite this called Waterloo Road and follow this all the way to the end at the “T” section and turn left travel along this for a couple of K’s and there will be a main road on the left heading up a slight hill iam not sure of the name but there will be a yellow and red PDMBC sign so turn left and follow it for a “K” or so and you will see the finish area on the right and there will be another sign.

Slow And Low

Today Kanook,Triggaz,Abe,Brett and myself hit up Welli Mills, It pissed down the whole way there but once we arrived it was all clear skys. We did about 10 runs on the race track and a couple on the old one and we even found a new track with a few big jumps but it was too pedally at the top for it to be worthy. On the race track Abe managed to lay it down on the creek jump on his first attempt, it looked like he had enough speed but he dabbed the front brakes a little just as he was coming up to the lip and this un balanced him as he got air and he nosed it onto the landing then went straight over the bars it was funny as but he landed on his elbow and opened up his gash from the Hi-Way cup and it looks like it will need a little bit of Mums handy work to get it closed up but Abe wasnt having any of that, he also busted his X9 so he took of the chain and still did a couple more runs. I have some sweet pics from today so i will stick them up as soon as Abe emails them to me.

Bells Little Lady

Uk Frame Set Nice And Shiny!
Bellerina has finally retired the old faithfull Giant Dh Team and replaced it with suprise suprise another Giant. A Giant is all he could buy because of all the shit he has been dishing out on our Santa Cruz’s he would of copped a spray if he had of bought anything else. Even Kanook’s Glory wasnt good enough Bell thought it looked gay so that left him with only one choice the good old Faith. Triggaz finished banging it together today Malaga Cycles kept the Marzocchi 66’s and used Bells Boxxer’s and Xt brakes and he is still running the stem and pro tapers of the old girl. he didnt make many changes from stock apart from fitting an Mrp and a new set of Minions and he has a fresh Tioga seat at home ready to fit on it, oh and he flipped the link to drop the BB a little and a Funn direct mount stem and THE seat (not shown). I had a little roll on it and the angles seem to be good but the rear end doesnt feel like 10 inchs oh well I guess we will have to wait until the Mills to see if a new rig can make him faster.

Elite Men
For Bell to take the series he needs to win at Welli Mills and he needs Mik to come 12th, if Sproggy wins and Mik comes 14th and Bell comes 3rd Sproggy wins, but if Bell comes 2nd Bell wins as long as Mik comes 31st now if you think thats confusing? it is! Well if I win and Bell and Sproggy dont turn up and Mik has a little mishap I could pull a 2nd! But remember Benny Bell, Joel Bain and Mitch Delfs will be back in town to rock the boat!!!

Stef Van Amerongen 320

Expert Men
Stu only has to turn up to the next race to win Ikin has knocked Ben Mitchell out of 3rd and if he keeps up his form he is a red hot chance of taking out Thomas for 2nd.
Stu Mac Donald 295
Rhys Thomas 201
Niki Ikin 175
Sport Men
Housey needs a win at the Mills and its all his and Currie is still in the mix to take out Zaffino for 3rd overall.
Corey House 255
Ross Thalon 190
Lorry Zaffino 158
Chris Currie 146
Hard Tail
Very close indeed but Albrey should bag it as long as Dangerous Dave stays away, not that he can win but he could make it tight for 1st 2nd and 3rd now that Dickson has just nudged Mouritz out by 18 points.
Darcy Albrey 200
Michael Titter 159
Murray Dickson 136
Masters Men
Chrisso In Training
Starling cant lose but Chrisso can take his highest ever overal finish if he just stays of the goon and focuses on his riding, but it aint going to be easy with Hadley racing on his home track.
Paul Starling 290
Shayne Hadley 208
Chris Austin 201
Veteran Men
Shane must win to take it out because Nabbsy is hot on his heals, and hows 3rd and 4th? theres a bee’s dick in it, this is going to be a hotly contested final round but I think the 2 Dobbo’s can do it.
Shane Dobson 240
Damian Nabbs 222

Kylie needs to keep up her good form because Mullet Woman is right on her butt! and Kath is getting faster as the season comes to an end.
Kylie Walford 240
Fiona Jackson 210
Kath Williams 175
Under 19’s
This is the fast class and Ranga and Baker are going to Doog it out to the end, Baker must win and he needs Ranga to come 6th or less but I dont think it will be that easy I think Ranga will come 2nd with 330 giving him the overall, Baker should win at the Mills but I dont think 305 points is going to be enough for the overall and dont forget Powell he’s only just of the pace at 194, 3rd at the Mills will give him the 3rd overall.
Jamie Dunlop 265
Deon Baker 225
Tom Powell 194
Under 17’s
Baarspul has stepped up into the placings with solid finishes, Choko has it signed and sealed but things are tight with Everett squeezing his way into 2nd knocking Marach out of the podium.
Pete Andrzejeski 280
Jeremy Everett 168
Joel Baarspul 151
Under 15’s
For Browny to take it he must win at the Mills and Orr would have to finish 3rd but I have a feeling things will stay just as they are.

Sleeping Babies
Another Hi-Way Cup has gone and another name has been etched into history, it seems to be harder and harder for anyone to go back to back with all the young guns stepping up and showing us all what they are about and Deon Baker did exactly this, his first run was a little reserved at 1.40.90 after seeing one of his good buddy James Ross go down hard, but his next run he let it all hang out improving his time to 1.38.56 putting him into the top five fastest with Dr Dean 1.39.03, Mik 1.39.59, Sproggy 1.39.71 and Mitch 1.39.79 thats right Dr Dean the Vets National Champ from the East took out Elite on the day catching a few of the boys unaware and still leaving the door open for Matt Bell who was away working, he says he will be back no matter what for Welli Mills to give Mik a run for the overall. The Sport field had a new winner with Abe Whaanga schooling Housey by a couple and Jason Chilcott milli seconds behind in 3rd, this result still keeps Housey in 1st overall and he should be able to extend the lead at the Mills. Mel Mothersole has come into the Womens Elite picture a little to late to put any real pressure on Stefs overall lead but this could be a real challenge in 2007. Stu Macdonald took Expert Nik Ikin must of been putting in some training with a seriously fast time and Ryhs Thomas finished 3rd followed by the Twinnys who cant seem to shake each other. Another name to keep a eye on is Dave “Dangerous” Berry on his Hard Tail STP he was going hard all day taking out Hardtail with a 1.41.36 and a “no footed can can” over the table at the finish, Darcy Albrey was 2nd still holding onto the overall points lead followed by Aaron Tenardi. A lot of people will remember Dave Berry in 2003 and 2004 when he gave us all a nudge on his Kona but then dissappeared of the scene, he seems to only turn up to the big races to give us all the shits but if he gets another Dually and starts racing again we better be ready. Paul Starling cemented the overall Masters title just nudging in front of the host Nevesy with the old Wino Chrisso some how pulling a 3rd in front of Hadley which now puts Chrisso back into 3rd place overall. The next big thing after Deon Baker is Under 13’s Jacob Parker on his Hi-Way Cycles Sponsored Norco pulling a super fast 1.59.00 flat which placed him up there with some of the big boys this little fella is going to just get faster and faster, Byrne came 2nd and Wilsher 3rd. Under 15’s was hotly contested with Chris Thomson taking it out Toby Gaskell 2nd and Tom Orr 3rd. Holly Baarspul once again took out the U15 Womens so come on girls if you know you can do it get your bike and give this girl some one to race against. Choko hurt the U17 field only just with a 1.48.10 just in front of Everett 1.49.36 and Hadley 1.49.36 you could of thrown a blanket over the rest of them they were all so close. Under 19’s we know who won but hot on his tailn was Ranga 1.40.60 and Jack 1.42.79 these guys are smoking. Vets Shane Dobson with a tidy time of 1.40.80 Nabbsy 1.44.47 and Nige Dobson 1.44.84 I know your all wondering why Dobbo is racing in Vets I dont think he knows maybe he likes beating up old blokes? Kylie took out Vet Womens 2.18.18 a fair stretch in front of 2nd place Mullet Woman and Kathleen.
Top 30 time and top 3 Women it was tense at the top of the hill with Cup Glory on the line. Sproggy was doing his best impression of a Phillipino garden gnome going all quiet and channeling Imelda for strength to bust out the triple and thats just what happened him and Mik went the big one the crowd orgasmed so did the midgets but it still wasnt enough for the win because Baker pushed his Glory to another level and improved his time again to a 1.37.38 which was enough to have his name scratched into W.A Down Hill History for ever, Deon didnt even use the triple if he did his time would of been even faster. A brilliant day yet again with the rain clouds staying away all day, pitty we didnt get to run the Dash For Cash but time ran out any way it was a solid day of riding.
