2007 Hi-Way Cycles Cup ‘10yr Anniversary’
Posted by Hiway Editor (hiwayeditor) on Jul 31 2007 at 10:50 AM
RACE DETAILS
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the famous ‘Hi way Cup’ and is the 4th State Round of the year. The race is being held at 3 Chillies Farm in Chittering on the 4th and 5th August, and will be the biggest and best Hi-way Cycles Cup to date!!
To mark the significance of this milestone Hi-Way Cycles and crew have stepped it up big time in the prize department, which was already sigificantly more than any other race on the calendar. Also a brand new track has been built at the farm that will blow you away. The standard has been raised significantly on this track, the top is tight, technical natural terrain which then opens up into the orchard and into the fastest, biggest man made section to date. Many thanks have to go to 3 Chillies chief trail guru, Paul Neve for his machinery & all the work he has done and to Mitch for his wizardry on the berms. As you’ll see in the pics they’ve ended up sweet.
Pre registration for this event is available online, and is highly recommended as it is easier for everyone and cheaper for you. You can access online rego from the toolbar link “RACE ENTRY - FORMS AND ONLINE”, anyone who does not have an MTBA number but has paid membership just type in 9999 into the box. If you don’t have a CC, you can print out an entry form from the toolbar and post it in ahead of the race. We will have rego on the day, HOWEVER IT WILL INCUR AN ADDITIONAL FEE OF $15. Anyone who registers online please print out the online receipt and bring it with you. AS ALWAYS YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR CURRENT MTBA CARD OR RECEIPT AS PROOF OF MEMBERSHIP, OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE TO BUY A DAY LICENCE FOR $15. We will have number plates available for anyone newcomers or for those who have lost their original plates.

Hope to see everyone there for an awesome weekend of racing!
TRACK DESCRIPTION
The start of the track is the same which is flat out fun. It then gets abit different and gets a fair bit more tech, abit slower than last year but still really flowy. Most of the upper field area and Pauls bush block is new and all pure natural downhill. It then gets into the orchard area where its all completely the opposite. Mostly man made. Super fun.

The first pic is of where the track joins onto the 4x track. Last year there was a double followed by a sloping away table landing. A few riders were able to triple the whole lot which was around 17 metres. This caused all sorts of troubles as it was real easy to over jump the first double. We’ve knocked over the take-off and made it a dropping step-down. This gives you heaps of speed into the next step down into the chute and accross the car-park.

The 1st pic is of the carpark after the chute. Last year it flew straight off the edge as a fast ski jump. This year we’ve arced it around to the left and launched it off a higher drop. As you can see if it’s raining this turn is pretty slippery and lining up the drop is hard to get right. The pic on the right is abit further down into the orchard. There’s a jump over the fireroad, then a nice long step-down, then this right hand berm, to double straight into a left hand berm, which is in the 1st pic below.

After the left hand berm a couple pedal strokes an into the 180 degree hooking berm, straight into a dropping left. It all links together so well.

After the last berm its a quick bumpy straight-away, into a dropping s through the orange trees, which is greezy as on the exit. You have to get on the gas quickly as you then have to hit up this step down which Ryan’s giving the big thums up to. Then over the final table like last year. Hope you can all make it along!
