SAM HILL IS UNBEILEVABLE….read below

The infamous Garbanzo DH race, a torturous endurance downhill race that only the world’s top riders can finish in under 15 minutes, was run once again in wet conditions. Reigning World Champions Gee and Rachel Atherton took out their respective events by significant margins. Hill took 2nd in typical Sam style - having run off course and somehow lost a shoe in his run, he stopped to put his shoe back on and continued the race, however Atherton’s 17 second margin was simply too big to catch up. Former Junior World Champ, Amiel Cavalier took 6th, with wildman Chris Kovarik in 8th.

Well this is a new intative we are trying to run with DEC in Dwellingup, where if we can to give all user group’s advanced warning of any events that may effect the way we use the area.

THE WARNING IS FOR THE WEEKEND 9TH-10 OF AUGUST

Exact details were not available at time of discussion for time’s.

REASON: There is an endurance horse event on and they will be using the fire road’s around the tom’s crossing trails. So if you can avoid/ or be extra courtese in the area this would be much appreciated by all. If you do go down Dec will confirm at the entry if access is or is not available. Trails are open at Murray Valley be aware that you will have to access them via Nanga Mill due to bob’s crossing being currently in flood.

Here’s the 4x results….. bit dissapointed in freecaster, delay coverage and still got blips and blackout’s.

Just watched Mitch’s run the boy had it hanging out feet off in the mud and another brief stay in a World Cup Hot Seat. I had an Honest belief Mitch would do top 20 here after riding bromont alot last year and to go top ten is an amazing effort.

Well no live footage lastnight it’s actually on later this afternoon. Anyway Sam takes the win and the Leader’s Jersey back after win’s in the semi and the final, young kiwi pinner Sam blekinsop with another top ten result andMad Mitch Delfs with his best wotld cup result yet finishing in 9th.

Well had a brief msn chat with peel member chris currie today and he asked me should he do the garbanzo dh. Well naturally i said yes because we love to put our mates into unknown danger. Now if your not fimilar with the garbanzo here’s a brief description from the guy’s at whistler.

It starts way up at the tippy top of the Whistler Bike Park and then goes down forever. This year’s epic enduro downhill pits both World Cup and local riders against 3,400 vertical feet of roots, rocks and muchos grande air… fingers will cramp, eyes will water, and brake pads shall smoke like a bush fire.

Now for an idea of times Sam Hill won by 30 seconds last year with a time of 14:25:07 passing brian lopes on his way.

This is all part of the Kokanee crankworx which chris will be at all week, so hopefully he’ll also get some great shot’s he can pass on to us for the site. http://www.crankworx.com/whistler/home.php

Well post a comment in the comment box and tell him what to do….. RIDE IT FOR PEEL.

From Crystal at the Munda Biddi. If you can help them this weekend it would be great. Let her know by Wednesday if you can help………

As you are probably now aware an opportunity has come up for the new section of Munda Biddi from Collie through to Nannup to be opened on Thursday 28th of August. In order for this to become a reality we all need to come together and help as DEC needs a hand with some construction.

You can assist with basic hut or bridge construction, trail construction, signage or planting work during the week by arrangement. (Steel cap boots are required for hut construction and recommended for other work)

This weekend, 2/ 3 August, Kerstin has organised a working weekend and unfortunately we only have 2 confirmed attendee’s. So if you are available please support us and help out as we need all the help we can get (even if it is just for one day) to get the trail construction complete in time.

Also as you can see below in exchange for your help DEC is offering to pay for accommodation for both the Friday and Saturday nights and also for some of your meals.

If you are available to help out this weekend or at anytime during the next few weeks please let me know by Tuesday 29 July so I can do up a roster and let Kerstin know. There will be the opportunity to car pool once I have done up the rosters and know who is going down when, so I will be in touch about this.

This is an exciting time for the Munda Biddi and your help would be much appreciated to help us meet the deadline and get the trail open by the end of August.

Kind Regards

Well MSA was a muddy race this year, and on the day it was Greg Minaar. Greg is realling looking good at the moment with his new shoulder. A great race for local boy Mitch Delfs getting sometime in the hot seat and finishing 14th.

    Taken from http://www.farkin.net/forums/showthread.php?t=136136

Round 4 of the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup saw the World’s best downhill racers hitting it out on a damper Mont-Sainte-Anne course after more than a month’s break from racing the series. Team Monster Energy Iron Horse’s Sam Hill (AUS) took 2nd place in the semi final, and another 2nd place in the final, to now find himself 2nd overall in the series. Team mate Brendan Fairclough (GBR), now back in full fitness, finished 12th, a career best on the physically demanding course.

Whereas many believe Schladming and Maribor are courses that Sam owns, he is the first to admit that his win in Mont-Sainte-Anne last year was against the odds.

“Coming here I know that this track suits guys like Greg Minnaar, Steve Peat and Gee Atherton. It’s one for the bigger guys who can carry speed better than me and are stronger in the pedaling sections,” said Sam.

Therefore, to score a 2nd here was an exercise in damage control before moving to tracks that suit him better.

Mont-Sainte-Anne was not its typical dry and hot self for the downhillers this week. Plenty of rain and fog earlier in the week, and water running off the mountain keeping sections of the track wet throughout the day, despite the lack of rain. Tire choice was important with the changing surfaces from dry out in the sun, to muddy slippery sections in the forest, catching some top riders out including previous winner on this track Chris Kovarik (AUS).
